A Swedish musical success in New York City ends in the fall. On September 5, played ABBA musical “Mamma Mia” for the very last time on Broadway after having been a veritable success throughout 14 years, writes the New York Post.
The long period of play at the world’s most famous theater street, place “Mamma Mia” in eighth place over the musicals recorded at the corner of Broadway, just behind “A Chorus Line,” “Oh Calcutta!” and “Les Miserables”. Since the world premiere in London in 1999, the show, which is based on Abbas’s greatest hits, generating a full 17 billion in revenue, which, among other things, to authors Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus. The musical was filmed also in 2008 with Meryl Streep in the lead role.
“Mamma Mia” was recorded in 16 languages in 40 cities. But now it’s over, at least in New York. During the tourist season, it is entirely in the salon, but “Mamma Mia” has otherwise been difficult to attract people.
– It is amazing that we have stayed at in a decade and a half and I think it is the right time to quit, says producer Judy Craymer to the New York Post. We want an entertaining summer and finish with dignity.
