The film industry in Sweden loses over 800 million annually due to illegal streaming and fildelad film and television, according to a recent report.
“It is a common misconception that piracy is less of a problem today because we have a wide range of legal options. On the contrary, the problem of illegal services is greater than ever. As much as 280 million movies and TV programs annually appear illegal only in Sweden, “says Per Strömbäck from the film and TV industry Cooperation in a press release.
The report is based on 1,003 interviews with people aged between 16 and 79 years. 29 percent responded that they use illegal services to see film and television. Among those under 30 years the proportion was 61 percent.
