And now also starting next year’s race to take shape. SVT has included decisions in which cities Eurovision Song Contest will be held.
The first round will be held in Gothenburg on Saturday 6 February and then roll it in the races in Malmö, Norrköping and Gävle. All the towns have organized the Eurovision Song Contest least once before, but when it is time for the Second Chance March 5 makes Halmstad debut as a pop town.
“Challenge every year”
The finals will be held then, just as the past few years, the Friends Arena in Solna on 12 March.
– Finding a new city is a challenge every year, the Eurovision Song Contest is a production that is growing and growing and therefore it is difficult to find a city and a venue that can provide everything needed. Therefore we are especially pleased that we are now going to Halmstad, says Anette Helenius, SVT’s project manager for Melodifestivalen.
How is it when you appoint the organizing cities?
– There are not an exact science, but it is a collaboration between SVT and tour coordinators where we together take forward proposals on cities. We have desires and we must also take into account other events around the country and look at capacity and dissemination so that we vary us.
Just spread in the country is especially important in the public service mandate.
– Melodifestivalen go on tour for one reason only and that is to face the crowd. We have done the last 14 years, and then it is also important that we manage to find a scattering of our cities so that we do not only go to those who have previously experienced the Eurovision Song Contest, says Anette Helenius.
