The expert is a man when the news media get to choose – Today’s Media

29,2% of the people who come to express their views in the media are women.

8.1% of the people who come to the century in the Swedish media, utomnordisk background.

Women and people doctors with non-nordic background are strongly underrepresented in the news about industry and economy.

When people doctors with non-nordic background will say it is usually as individuals, or when they speak about their work. Very few are experts or spokespersons.

Focus expert:

29.9 per cent of the experts heard in Swedish media are women.

8 percent of the experts have utomnordisk background.

The most common expert is a scientist or someone else who works at the college or university.

the Stereotypes about which subjects that are traditionally female and male influences who gets to comment on them. 25.5 per cent of the experts had to comment on politics and the economy were women, while the corresponding figure for the experts who got to comment on the health care and education was 43.4 per cent.

Selection:

the Analysis includes the 1200 randomly selected web articles from the 11 Swedish news sites (published every other month from January to June 2016), while the specific peer-review includes 600 articles from the same news sites, and time period.

In the study included the following publications: Aftonbladet, Dagens Industri, Dagens Nyheter, Expressen, Göteborgs-Posten, Metro, News 24, Svenska Dagbladet, Sveriges Radio (sr.see), Sveriges Television (svt.see/news) and bbc news.
