Ten days ago, sent the author and playwright Henning Mankell’s final text to the newspaper GP. It came to be about the cancer.

Yesterday came the news that the world renowned author died. Now publishes GP Henning Mankell’s last text in which he writes about his last days.

“For a long time I have not written in the GP of the disease. As if I had not had anything to say. But the truth is different. Although cancer of the day does not mean a death sentence so the disease is still treacherous and unpredictable. “

Mankell talks about summer’s hospital visit in midsummer when he was given a gloomy message that the immune system crashed. “It would end with a drive home immediately turned into an ambulance ride to the hospital, especially since it was discovered that I had a double pneumonia.”

The productive Mankell describes how his energy has been reduced, but he does not notice so much of his lung tumor. Staff at the Sahlgrenska keep spirits up, but those dark moments making themselves felt, writes Mankell and quote author colleague Peo Enqvist:

“One day we die. But all the other days, we will live. “
