It has been five years since the US rock group REM split after 31 years together. Only now is the band’s guitarist Peter Buck ready to talk about the breakup.
He tells US magazine Rolling Stone that it was when the band’s last album, “Collapse Into Now” was recorded by singer Michael Stipe said he needed take a time-out. Instead, Peter Buck suggested that the band would simply close down.
– Then I made a list of everything I hate about the music industry. Money, policy, will be forced to meet with people 24 hours a day and not allowed to make any own decisions, he tells the magazine.
Peter Buck has escaped the limelight, but has continued to work with music in different ways. Among other things, he holds an annual festival in Mexico.
