Rare Bacon-portrait at auction – Västerbotten Courier

A rare and unusually cheerful self-portrait by British artist Francis Bacon to be auctioned for the first time, writes The Guardian.

The auction house Sotheby’s says “Two studies for a self-portrait,” which work from the 1970′s, is the artist’s most accomplished self-portrait.

the auction will take place in New York on May 11

– the painting tops the list of all the work I had to deal with during my career. To discover this kind of art is like finding gold. This painting is worthy of a place alongside Rembrandt, Van Gogh and Picasso’s best self-portrait. It is indeed one of the mästerligaste self-portraits ever auctioned, said Oliver Barker at Sotheby’s.
