She gets Australia’s largest bokpris – Västerbottens-kuriren (the Courier)

Playwright and actor Leah Purcell is assigned to the australian state of Victoria’s prize for literature, writes The Guardian. The price on the corresponding 832 000 sek is the nation’s largest cash prize in the literary context.

Leah Purcell is praised for its set of author Henry Lawson’s short story "The drover’s wife" from 1892. The novel depicts a woman who is left alone in the australian outback with her four children and Purcell, who belong to Australia’s indigenous people, has been hailed for his interpretation.
