Rome and Jews gathered in a memorial to the victims of the Holocaust in Romania in 2011.
the Second World war has never really ended . Not what concerns Jews and Roma. The contempt tastes bitter, like the ash ancestors left behind.
On August 2, among the particularly fateful day during the war – for both peoples. Then occurred the so-called zigenarnatten, as did the Jews revolt in Treblinka extermination camp.
The Roma have begun to commemorate this day in recent years, while most Jews are surprisingly ignorant about this uprising.
1944 was the year when the remaining Roma in Auschwitz were gassed, totaling close to 3,000 in one night. The able-bodied, almost two thousand had already been deported to Buchenwald to which deep underground to continue rocket production which bombed by the Allies on the Baltic coast. This killer night has got to stand as a symbol of the Roma fate.
Because of the poor statistics, we do not know exactly how many Roma in total were murdered in Europe. The number of ports between a quarter and half a million people of an estimated population of one million.
The fate of Roma are badly coated. They were regarded by the master race as criminal and anti-social and racial lowlife.
Recently, a Swedish book published that reflects the survivors of fate in the concentration camps accompanied by informative facts departments.
The book, nicely landscaped, called “The silent heritage” (JIC media). The title alludes to the war experiences that concealed. Jews have a greater extent – although there has been in recent years – allowed to reproduce its horrors in book form. Perhaps because the people of the Book takes a strong literary tradition than the Roma? But even among the Jews, I can recognize the silence – suffering is felt too close to skin.
The said agency head writer, Monica Hirsch, himself a Jew, who also inherited his interview victims of family stories. Many Jews have engaged Roma thing – the experience has been close to each other. Hirsch does in his writing deed the company of, among others, Elie Wiesel, and in Sweden, Jonathan Freud. The latter has told how he was sixteen I fled away along with a “zigenarfölje” in the darkest Småland to a few years later convert to Judaism. He has written a number of books on Roma and command of both Romani and Hebrew and has both Jewish and Roma children.
As a Jew suffer a daily basis of not fully transparent spin-doctoring, even this day, innuendo as on a symbolic level hidden under a supposedly Israel-Palestine Conflict.
the Roma are treated not by such kryptik. For them påflugenheten a reality that not even the war could compromise on. Take EU migrants, for example, which are largely made up of Roma. The turn from the gaze of passers-by, sometimes filled with disgust, speaks an unmistakable language. Keep in mind that these beggars often carries with it the last war ok. They have refused to submit to racial society’s ingrained delusions of submission necessity. It is more than what an average person can endure.
The beggars are luspanka. Every penny in their plastic cup helps. Imagine: you pay by the European debt as the Third Reich’s followers owe them.
War and suffering makes people impoverished – both body and soul.
Back to the 2nd of August, but in 1943 in Treblinka, the year before the mass murder of Roma in Auschwitz. A rebellion is planned. After a million Jews murdered by the Germans and Ukrainians, in this remote village in north-eastern Poland, made an insurrection which only fifty Jews will survive.
A few years ago I translated Chil Rajchmans “I am the last Jew “from Yiddish, his account of his imprisonment in hell Treblinka. Never have I felt so bad of a text. It cuts right into the soul. Half an hour a day, I fainted, then I must tear myself from Rajchman that was “barber”, that is, cut off women’s hair in front of the gas chamber, and “dentist”, that is, pulled out the teeth were executed in search of gold. Perhaps the Nazi gold Hitlerites bought Swedish iron ore with?
Treblinka commandant managed to escape after the war. First, he was helped to Syria by a Vatikanbiskop, stayed there a couple of years like the Nazis and then proceeded to Mengele’s Brazil. There, he performed under his real name, Franz Stangl, and worked in a Volkswagen factory.
The executioners protectors to each other, it was the Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal, who got his extradition. Dr. Mengele who also lived in Brazil was able to live out his days in peace – despite all Roma and Jews, he let the gas at Auschwitz, despite all that tormented to death in his medical experiments.
Today is August 2nd. Perhaps only a beautiful summer day, but not for those who remember.
