The old movie musical “Hair” brought disgusted watching reactions when it was broadcast on Swedish television on Christmas Day, writes Aftonbladet. In the Swedish translation of a song number sings one of the protagonists that she wants to have a “delicious negro kiss”. N-word refers to the Swedish Christmas candy mint kiss previously referred to the word of the Swedish translators chose in the 1980s.
Magnus Rönnlid, head of SVT subtitle says to Aftonbladet that he has an understanding of the reactions:
– I think we definitely had not chosen that word if the translation had been made today.
At the same time, he notes that the film is about tensions between black and white and a black person is called for “chocolate man.”
