Strict control before lobster premiere – Västervikstidningen

On Monday falls on many of the long-awaited lobster premiere at seven o’clock in the morning. Only then will it legal to fish for lobster, and before that, no lobster pots laid out. Now, the Coast Guard is working flat out to stop poaching.

That last day we made five seizures of pots. Overall the past week dozens. Most are individual tools, but one of which consists of multiple, says Erik Österlund, duty officer at Coast Guard Region Southwest.

There is a total ban to put out lobster pots in water shallower than 30 meters, but every year is discovered still fishing gear along with West Coast. Often pots unmarked, making it difficult to link any suspect to implement, according to the Coast Guard.
