Jazz pianist Joe Sample’s death – helagotland.se

The influential jazz pianist Joe Sample died on Friday in Houston, announces his family on Facebook.

Sample revolutionized jazz in the 1960s and 70s and worked during his five-decade career with the likes of Marvin Gaye , Anita Baker, Eric Clapton and Joni Mitchell.

He started the band Jazz Crusaders (who later became The Crusaders) in the mid-1950s. With them he released over 40 albums, 19 of which landed on Billboard. He also had a successful solo career and toured until recently with his new group, Creole Joe Band.

Among the merits is also the song “One Day I’ll Fly Away” sung by Nicole Kidman in the movie “Moulin Rouge “(2001).

Joe Sample was 75.
