In just over a year has figurmakaren and mask pennies Goran Lundstrom worked to make copies of Abbas four members so that they looked like in 1979. The hairs are desig- hand, the hands have been cast and dental impressions have taken. “ABBA” has also provided input throughout the process.
– I have myself put 2000 hours on this, says Göran Lundström, who also held them in a team of 25 people who worked on the docks.
– I am most pleased with Benny. I do not know if he was easier … we had a very good picture to work from, and that smile is very difficult to get to, he said.
The hype surrounding the unveiling of the brand new figures, Benny Andersson describes as “better looking than the models set”, was almost as thought out as if the real models set would make his entrance, with both a helicopter and international media in place. All accompanied by the ABBA song “Arrival” from in 1976.
The dolls are described as a kind of wax dolls 2.0, and looks very really very alive.
– It is a monumental difference with silicone . It becomes incredibly more shades of skin and pigments to have in the face, so it becomes something completely different wax figures, says Ingmari Halling, curator at Abba Museum.
Ingmari Halling knows what she’s talking about: between 1977 and 1980, she worked with ABBA on tour and helped them with clothes, hair and makeup.
– I got them very close, and I can really feel when I stand like this close up them now – it nearly so they can start talking to me, she says.
TT: Why Abba still such attraction?
– That’s a hundred thousand dollar question. I think it may be their incredible accuracy when making music, they like vidrit and turned to the songs, hour after hour, day after day, until it has become law, and such pay off, says Ingmari Halling.
