Netflix latest is a bombastic historical drama about the Venetian explorer and merchant Marco Polo time at Kublai Khan court in 1200 century China .
A young Marco ( Lorenzo Richelmy ) follows his father into the heart of mongolväldets Yuan Dynasty, which he left, he left as a “gift” to Kublai Khan ( Benedict Wong ).
He trained in Oriental arts and swordsmanship, and is gaining confidence from the “stork male” who uses him as a couple extra eyes and ears in his war-torn empire.
“Marco Polo” has cost – and it shows.
It is majestic worse.
But the dialogue, often when it comes to historical dramas, obviously been a challenge. And Italian Richelmy plays the lead role as a wide-eyed, little CUBBISH and right uninteresting viewer, which most feels like a western handrail among much more colorful supporting characters.
And above all it is a problem that “Marco Polo” is exactly as expected. It’s downright A course in Chinese stereotypes, garnished with brutal violence, barbarism and so much naked, moaning concubines to the boundary between the sexy and sexist crossed with miles.
premiere Friday at Netflix
