We are completely shocked everybody! “- Swedish Dagbladet

On Saturday night became it is thus clear that the prestigious film prize the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival went to the Swedish filmmaker Roy Andersson and his film “A pigeon sat on a branch and musing on life.”

This is the first time that a Swedish film is rewarded with a Gold Lion. 1971 Ingmar Bergman got the price, but for its overall achievement, that is, for several of his films.

– It is also the first time in 25 years that a Swedish film is at all in the race for the price said Jan Göransson.

– If you then think of Ruben Östlund won the second-finest prize at Cannes, it is with Roy Andersson’s tremendous victory for the Swedish film, he continues.

Jan Göransson, who been down in Venice for a few days before the prize was awarded, has noticed a great interest in Roy Andersson’s film.

– Press The tour was sold out and the was a very good atmosphere. Afterwards Roy write a lot of autographs to movie enthusiasts and film writers from around the world. He’s bigger than you think here at home.

We have been working for four years for this and it really feels like a confirmation.

Pernilla Sandström

Swedish Film Institute, SFI, was with and supported the movie by 8 million in production support and have adhered to the longstanding process to complete the film.

Jan Göransson think it’s Roy Andersson’s distinctive style is behind the film’s success.

– He is a unique visionary, with its own unique approach. He is linked to the visual arts to a much greater extent than any other director.

The film’s producer , Pernilla Sandström, is noticeably taken after the victory.

– It is little dumb now I can say. It feels quite sick, we are completely shocked everyone! We have worked for four years for this and it really feels like a confirmation, she says.

Pernilla Sandström is pleased with the fine reception that the film received during the film festival, and especially glad that it brought the discussions.

– There are many scenes that we want to say a lot with, we want to be able to discuss the content and details.

What’s in the film that struck at so many do you think?

– It’s not like anything else. It puts words and everyday events in pretty serious situations. We have some somewhat provocative scenes that many responded, in a positive sense, that people wanted to discuss.

Can you name any examples?

– The For example, a scene from a laboratory animal studies that many gets a bit scared of, yet is made with such an absurd Roy Spirit son comedy so that it has been able to say anything, says Pernilla Sandström.

Jeanette Gentele , Svenska Dagbladet’s film critic, thinks that Roy Andersson is worth gold lion more than anyone else.

– Because he is so extremely original. There is no one who makes such films. He has almost formed school. Since he always has a message of his films, he is a social critic and social observer.

– There are a number of great filmmakers in the European film family and he belongs to, it really was time to reward him, says Jeanette Gentele .
