The legendary actor, the star of Lawrence of Arabia, is dead. Omar Sharif was 83 years.
Omar Sharif, was born as Michel Shalhoub in Alexandria, Egypt in 1932.
Film debut took place in Egypt in 1953 and his international breakthrough came in Lawrence of Arabia in 1962, a role he was Oscar nominated for. He is also well known for the title role in David Lean’s romantic war drama Doctor Zijvago, 1965th
Omar Sharif became a superstar in the Arabic-speaking world, particularly after 1955 when he married Faten Hamama – their greatest contemporaries, most popular Egyptian actress. Before the wedding, he converted to Islam and changed his name to Omar el-Sharif. The couple, who were together until 1974, had a son, Tarek Sharif, who also appears in the Doctor Zijvago where he plays the doctor was young. Omar Sharif predicted his grandson, actor Omar Sharif Jr., a brilliant career. Now his grandson posted a picture on Facebook, where he keeps his grandfather’s hand. He also writes, “I love you”.
