World premiere of Roxettefilm at Way Out West – Göteborgs-Posten

Jonas Akerlund has gone through Per Gessle’s private video footage from the tours with Roxette. The result, the documentary Roxette diaries, has its world premiere at the Way Out West festival in August.

Roxette diaries are a unique behind-the-scenes documentary by director Jonas Akerlund, not at least known for his fruitful collaboration with Madonna. He has been given exclusive access to a huge amount of private video: filmed backstage during Roxette’s world tours, in the studio, during promotional tours and in all contexts. Of the films that he had access to in April 2014, the director has now created its own story about Roxette the years 1988 to 2001.

“Just the fact that is the amazing Jonas Åkerlund directs guarantee that it will be a fascinating result, “writes Patricia Peres enthusiastically in Roxettebloggen.

Since the majority of the videos are from the late 1980s until 1995, it is admittedly a bit so-so with quality says Per Gessle in the blog. But the Roxette fans and friends who write on the blog adds, “Who cares?” “It’s so amazing that so many fun and magical moments from the past preserved and that we now have access to them. It makes us speechless!”

The blog also quotes Per Gessle:

“It happened so sick much for Roxette between 1986 and 1995. While there was a time when a video camera is not was something you saw everyday. Even if the technical quality is like that, I am eternally grateful that we really documented the hundreds of hours of footage from this magical time. Our aim was to capture everything: studio-jam, backstage-parties , rehearsals. I am eternally grateful to my wife Åsa filmed so much over the years, and never got tired of picking up the camcorder after all intensive touring. “

Whole handed Gessle Total 180 pieces Hi 8- and DV videotape to Jonas Åkerlund asking if he could “get together something worth seeing of it all.” Maybe even “a film that captured Roxette’s spirit from the beginning. A film that dared to be both honest and goofy and fun to watch.”

– Hey, I think he has succeeded! Have fun with Roxette diaries, says Per Gessle their posts.

Now it clear that it entirely fresh documentary will have its world premiere during Way Out West in Gothenburg August 13 to 15.

– It will be the first display of Roxette diaries ever, says Svante Tidholm who put together the ambitious film program for this year’s festival.

And Way out West’s film program only growing. At its inception five years ago appeared six films. Today there are about 40 films, among them the famous documentaries that Asif Kapadias Amy, about singer Amy Winehouse, Brett Morgens Cobain: Montage of Heck and the world premiere of Electrical and Lars Berge’s documentary Queen of Country music by Frida Hyvönen.

A novelty in the year is also a great movie tent in the Castle Forest, at Gräfsnäs farm, where screenings are interspersed with seminars and discussions with special guests until late at night.

– My dream is To genres should float more and that it should not be as sharp boundaries between music and film, says Svante Tidholm.

For him it is a challenge that each year top the selection films at Way Out West, a festival praised for its combination of film and music. Below, he gives his top five film tips for Way Out West.

– Rather than develop more number of movies I now want to devote more energy to each specific film, inviting fun guests and so on. I do this mainly because I am passionate about music and film together, because they in so many ways enrich each other.
