The friends said goodbye Tranströmer – Swedish Radio

Today was buried the poet and Nobel laureate Tomas Tranströmer. There were many who had chosen to come to the Great Church in the Old Town in Stockholm to take a last farewell.

Magdalena Slyk’s family friend Tranströmer, and even though she is a literary scholar, it is the other pages of Tomas Tranströmer as she remembers anything.

– He has always been so warm and happy. Every time when we met, so he sat with a big smile on his face. And also played the piano. So I think that is what will be missed most when I come back to the apartment, says Magdalena Slyk.

Even an hour before the funeral began so coiled queue length along the alley outside the Great Church. Many who echoes The reporter talked to had personal memories of different events where Tomas Tranströmer occurred. Lars Burstedt arrived late for a reading in Uppsala again:

– We recognize that we would not fit. But we are still left. Tomas Tranströmer also realize that not everyone will fit. He comes out and says: You guys are so many here tonight that I will come back next Thursday. Which he did, says Lars Burstedt.

Swedish cultural life was of course abundantly represented, the Swedish Academy, Horace Engdahl, it was important to:

– To honor Thomas Transrömers memory, says Engdahl.

When the Great Church bells then started ringing so began the funeral service with the Fantasy in C minor by Johann Sebastian Bach, later also read the actor Krister Henriksson some of Tomas Tranströmer’s poems, including “blue anemones” from the collection “The wild square”.
