Heavens hailed by film – Göteborgs-Posten

SVT’s Facebook page flooded with warm tributes to Bjorn Afzelius after the documentary film about his life, a thousand pieces, aired on Good Friday.

“A fantasisk movie”, “Shall dig up the LP discs,” “oh so good he was.” “A truly amazing movie. So well done. So nuanced. So nice interviews. Is just taken.”

On SVT’s Facebook page flows the love of Bjorn Afzelius. The reason is that the documentary about his life, a thousand pieces, aired during Good Friday evening and it has obviously hit straight into the hearts of viewers.

The film about Bjorn Afzelius went into theaters in September 2014, and in October had it has been seen by 100,000 visitors. This means that the film ended up in a exclusive company, since 2001, only four other documentaries attracted so many visitors: Palme, Michael Jackson’s This Is It, Searching for Sugarman and Fahrenheit 9/11.

A unique portrait

into a thousand pieces sign filmmakers Magnus Gertten and Stefan Berg a unique portrait of Heavens with the help of a rich archival material, but also with newly made interviews with people close to him, as Marianne Lindberg De Geer, Mikael Wiehe and a long list of musicians, not least from the band Globetrotters.

The film tells about Bjorn Afzelius musical journey, relations to the (many) women, his mother, if the critics and the sometimes complicated friendship to Mika. The film also depicts how Bjorn Afzelius in various ways, including by donating hundreds of thousands of crowns, helped liberation movements in the Third World.

On SVT’s Facebook page also occurs criticism that the film was not nominated for film award Guldbaggen, which attracted attention earlier this year because the film both critical acclaim and attracted large cinema audience.

SVT has put out a thousand pieces on svtplay. It will also be shown on SVT 1 on two occasions on Easter Monday.
