On Wednesday it became clear that Eurovision 2016 will be held at the Globe Arena in Stockholm. DN’s Hanna Fahl: Is it fair that football has a monopoly on the Swedish arenas?

It has been built not one but two giant new and the expensive stadiums in the Stockholm area in recent years – Tele 2 and Friends. But once it pops up an entertainment event that may actually qualify in any of numnahs, so the choice is still on worn old Globe. Is it football clubs who refuse to relinquish arenatid, and it is in this case reasonable that the sport has a monopoly on venues which are largely paid for by taxpayers? Do SVT that primarily Friends is too large, and it is in this case reasonable to build stadiums that not even one of the world’s largest music can fill? Something in the equation does not add up.

Clean urban planning terms, that is. In practice, the Globe is a perfect choice for the Eurovision Song Contest. Right size, decent sound. Logistics in the Globen area is a dream – good transport links, plenty of extra space, and according to SVT will also exploit the neighbor Tele 2 during the final evening in one way or another (big-screen TV and beer tents?).

That it becomes Stockholm is also reasonable. Malmo did not, Gothenburg lacks the appropriate venue. And the smaller cities that applied for the event has a major flaw: hotels. For around 180 million TV viewers playing host city marginal role, but one must not forget that Eurovision is a festival too. Around 50,000 revelers accommodated, of whom about 30,000 tourists.

So, welcome to Stockholm again, dear Eurovision, sixteen years ago last. It was about time. Now is the time for SVT to fill the Globe with a worthy production too. The next piece of the puzzle that need to fall into place is the host – must be proposed to Petra Mede reprises his 2013 hit, using Mans Zelmerlöw or Sanna Nielsen?

And I actually have a draft, for it is certain the truth of the whining about Stockholm Centering the culture. Sandviken and Linkoping may be too small for the Eurovision, but would be wonderful hosts for Melodifestivalen Final next year.
