Swedish Dagbladet’s Opera Prize 2015 goes to composer Mats Larsson Gothe the Opera “Blanche and Marie”, based on a novel by Per Olov Enquist. “He has the genuine opera composer’s ability to take advantage of the history and the present to create their own music dramatic story,” writes the jury.
Mats Larsson Gothe grew up in Torsby and trained at the Royal College of Music, Stockholm , as well as in Finland and Italy. His first composition, he is already 13 years old.
“Blanche and Marie”, which was premiered by the Norrland Opera in the fall, tells the story of Nobel Prize winner Marie Curie and the mental patient Blanche Wittman, two women who probably never met in real life .
– We live in a time when we should be so rational, so reasonable. Opera is indeed a world of its own and must develop their individuality. It is important to awaken the imagination, says Mats Larsson Gothe to SvD.
