One Direction
The Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Friday
Public: Three-quarter Full, maybe 50 000th
Best: Story of my life.
Worst: Kiss You.
The streets around incredibly central Millennium Stadium in Cardiff in Wales is cordoned off to all vehicles. Instead drives hordes of girls, families, women and the occasional guy bawling forward to the gargantuan arena. Many face painted with JAGHJÄRTA1D on the cheeks, even more have plastblommeband hair. All would probably say that the One Direction, who have European premiere here tonight, still has masses in their hands. All, I would say, are wrong.
Of course, it is easy to read things that are not really there, but after about 90 minutes along with the quartet is now 1D, I must unfortunately announce that the do not have that much left to give. Zayn Malik, who left the band after a gig in Hong Kong in March lacking not so much physically.
Mentally, it’s another matter entirely. One Direction’s claims paid and has neither the strength nor the will to rise to nine. Sure, they run all their “Make Some Noise!” And “Thanks for coming out to Cardiff, you are wonderful!” But where chemical formula that stick together guys in boy band will now be seen as pure alchemy: they do not act as a unit anymore. Take Harry Styles for example. This wonderful Harry who has a specialty at the same time look completely bortkommen and stone cool, he’s basically uninterrupted where the other three in the band is not. Charming but very strange.
Louis has Black Sabbath tshirt and do not make much noise and it’s up to Liam and Niall to keep the flag flying and firing on the crowd. That they know how to do, and overall it is actually a pity that 1D seems to be running out when the four band now doing well as pop stars on stage.
Above all, they sing well, something they show above all in the quiet part that comes after three quarters. The hits are obviously many but sprinkle the songs, the ones that only a true fan can appreciate, even more, and it’s really just Steal my girl, Story of My Life and trailing Best song ever really stays.
Possibly I do a lot with the Ullevi Stadium ticket disappointed now, but it is not the intention. Rather, I see it as a given that you should go. Firstly you should take the opportunity to see their youth idols before becoming an adult and regret that you did not take the chance, and it may very well be the last time One Direction comes to town.
